2004-2005 Report
Following our workshop this year, students identified the group's values to be quality of life, education and culture and they decided to target children, youth, seniors, and the farm community. As a result, they researched a wider variety of charities, but still came back to grant recommendations for the same groups that we have researched in past years.
The council from both high schools met to discuss a fundraiser and the power-point presentation. The meetings went well, but it has been difficult for the two groups to meet together to arrange a joint fundraiser.
Our own group has explored several options for fundraising, but the scope of a fundraiser to raise enough money for a significant investment will require considerable time and preparation, and students are involved in several school and extracurricular activities already. AMHS YIP Council is currently planning a fundraising to auction off teachers for a day, but it is not yet finalized.
Three students will be attending the Regional meeting in Winkler in May, so we hope there will be some new ideas there.
We are grateful to the Community Foundation Board for sponsoring this program and to Karen Braden for her invaluable guidance in the process of grant-making.
