Central Plains Challenge Walk Website

MegaCFPD Grants co-chair Brad McMurray presented a cheque for $941 to Kathy Chapman and the Portage Crew from Central Plains Cancer Care for the creation of the Central Plains Challenge Walk website.

Utilizing the website technology will enable the Challenge Walk committee to reach the community and achieve their fundraising goal by:

The Portage FASD Coalition receives funding for a resource library

CFPD Vice President and Grants co-chair Ray Johnson presented a cheque for $1,000 to Barry Rud and Debbie Parker co-chairs of the Portage la Prairie Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Coalition/Portage Friendship Centre.

The funds will be used to develop a resource library to include printed materials, books, DVD’s on the topic of FASD. The information will be available at the Portage Regional Library.

There are many individuals in Portage and District that are impacted by FASD. The Coalition’s aim is to provide support and resources to those impacted by FASD as well as bringing awareness (preventative work) in this area.

La Verendrye School receives funding for wall mats for the gymnasium

SchoolAt the school assembly on May 31, CFPD Grants Co-chair Brad McMurray presented a cheque for $2,000 to LVS Parent Council President Lori Penner and Treasurer Wayne Harris.

The La Verendrye School Parent Council is concerned about the safety of students and community group members that use the gym. They requested help with purchasing eight new wall mats that are thicker and meet the requirements set for all Manitoba gymnasiums with basketball nets. Cost of the mats is about $4,300 and Parent Council raised $2,250. With the grant they will be able to purchase the mats immediately.
