Six Bursaries - Application Deadline is May 15
The Community Foundation of Portage and District has six opportunities for students to access funding to help cover their costs to pursue a post secondary education. If you are seeking a career in business, education, medical care or aviation please go to the Publications page to access the specific bursary criteria and application form.
General Criteria:
- a graduate of a Portage la Prairie district high school. Mature students may apply.
- currently registered, or accepted, in any year of studies in education, business or medical care
- consistently strong academic performance.
- personal characteristics that exhibit compassion, integrity, service to the community, and leadership.
- financial need
Commercial Pilot training criteria:
- The student must be currently registered or accepted in a recognized school of studies in a program providing training that will result in a commercial pilot license.
- Recipient may be but not limited to high school graduates in Central Manitoba. This includes municipalities of Alonsa, Dufferin, Grey, Lakeview, Lorne, Louise, Macdonald, Montcalm, Morris, North Norfolk, Pembina, Portage la Prairie, Rhineland, Roland, South Norfolk, Stanley, St. Frances Xavier, Thompson and Westbourne including all incorporated urban municipalities within this geographic area.
Bursaries available:
Dr. Donald William Rae Memorial Bursary
This $1000 bursary was created to assist one student each year in pursuit of a career in Nursing, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Medicine or Medical Rehabilitation including without limitations, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Respiratory Therapy.
Dr. Harvey Hassard Memorial Bursary
Students may apply who are in pursuit of a career in Nursing, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Medicine or Medical Rehabilitation including without limitations, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Respiratory Therapy. There are two $1000 bursaries to award.
In 2010, Director Ray Johnson presented Chelsea Drain with one of the Hassard Bursaries. She is training to be a nurse.
Lorraine Rae Bursary Fund
This $500 bursary is available to assist one student each year pursuing a career in the field of Education.
Portage la Prairie Community Development Corporation Bursary
A bursary for $1000 is available to assist one student each year in pursuit of post secondary education in business, management or accounting.
Jody Lee Fulton Memorial Bursary
Doug and Marion Fulton created this bursary in memory of their daughter Jody Lee. Each year the $1000 bursary will assist one student from Central Manitoba pursuing a commercial pilot license.
In 2010, Doug Fulton presented John Painter with the first Jody Lee Fulton Bursary.
Bursaries will be awarded at our 2011 Annual Report Presentation on June 13, 2011.
