Adeline and Orest Pressey Family Fund
Adeline and Orest Pressey decided to create a family named fund within the Foundation’s Endowment Fund. They chose to have the fund undesignated so that the yearly earnings can go to where they are most needed in the community. The fund was created with a $5,000 donation and the Presseys plan to add to the fund from time to time.
“Portage la Prairie has been very good to us since we came here in 1965 and we want to give something back to the community,” stated Adeline and Orest, “We have chosen CFPD because, although our donation is modest, it will benefit the community in perpetuity.”
The Presseys have been married for more than 50 years; have four children and three grandchildren. They moved to Portage from Virden in 1965. Both Adeline and Orest are community leaders, avid volunteers and humanitarians; their good reputations precede them.
Orest is well known in the legal community for his practical approach to legal work and documentation. On the personal side, he served three years on city Council and is an energetic volunteer for a number of organizations; most recently the Portage Plains United Way, Portage Ukrainian Connection, Portage la Prairie Heritage Inc and presently serves as a Director on the CFPD Board.
Adeline, once a legal secretary, is a quilter and seamstress. She has worked tirelessly for her church and other organizations such as the Portage Arts Centre, Centennial Committee and Ukrainian Women’s Association. Adeline is bilingual; she had visited Ukraine on three previous occasions and has Canadian election experience. As a result of this she was selected as one of 500 Canadians to travel to Ukraine as an election observer in December of 2004.
