The Brent and Debbie Gilbert Family Fund
Brent and Debbie Gilbert, along with their daughters Kate, Meaghan, and Rachel, are pleased to announce the launch of their new Named Fund with The Community Foundation of Portage and District Inc.
With an initial contribution of $5,000, The Brent and Debbie Gilbert Family Fund will be undesignated, allowing CFPD to distribute income from the Fund on an annual basis for general charitable purposes in Portage and area.
“Our intent is that this initial contribution of $5,000 will be just the beginning for the fund as we plan to make annual contributions to it in the future,” said Brent. “Portage and District has been very good to our family and this Fund will allow us to give back to the community on an ongoing basis.”
After a brief teaching career, Brent was recruited into the general insurance brokerage business by Barry Greenslade in 1978 and ran the business along with his partner, George Miller, until April of this year when Stewart-Greenslade Limited merged with Horizon Insurance. Brent and George are continuing on with Horizon as Managing Partners. “Barry Greenslade was instrumental in getting me started in business and he was a great mentor,” said Brent. “Our family is grateful for the opportunity that he gave us.”
Having raised three daughters in Portage, Debbie said that volunteering and philanthropy have always been important to the entire family. “Our daughters are proud of their roots in Portage and this fund will allow them to make ongoing contributions to charitable organizations for many years to come,” said Debbie. “Philanthropy is now one of our priorities and Brent’s involvement as a former Director of the Foundation made CFPD the logical choice for our new Fund.”
