Cliff Bagrie Memorial Fund

Cliff BagrieCliff Bagrie was a prominent businessperson and community builder. His career spanned 40 years with Hill's Drug Stores as a pharmacist and partner, owner/manager until his retirement in December 1989. In 1990, he was presented the A.H. Robbins Bowl of Hygeia Award for outstanding community service in pharmacy and in 1999 received the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association 50 year membership.

In 1986, Portage Chamber of Commerce named Cliff Business Person of the Year. In 1992, he received a Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada in recognition of his contribution to compatriots, community and Canada. He cared about his community and worked tirelessly on a number of committees and organizations to make Portage la Prairie a better place to live.

Cliff was a prominent city resident who served on the School Board in the 1950s and City Council in the 1960s. He was president of the Portage Curling Club, Portage Rotary Club, and Masonic Lodge Grand Master as well as co-chaired the two Portage Collegiate Reunions.

Cliff was a member of the Founders Club and a Director of the Community Foundation of Portage and District. He joined the Foundation Board in 1995 and during the five years he served on the Speakers Bureau, as Vice President and Chairperson of our Millennium Committee.

Cliff was well loved and respected member of our community and at his passing on April 23, 2000, many of his friends and family donated funds in his memory to the Community Foundation of Portage and District. Doreen Bagrie, Cliff's wife of 48 years, and the family decided to top up the donations and create a named fund called "The Cliff Bagrie Memorial Fund."
