Arthur Meighen High School Philanthropy Fund

The year 2002 was an exciting year for CFPD with the launching of our two Youth in Philanthropy groups: Arthur Meighen High School Advisory Committee and the Portage Collegiate Institute Advisory Committee.

The Community Foundation of Portage and District is partnering with the Thomas Sill Foundation in this six-year initiative. The Sill Foundation will grant $7,000 per year for the first three years and CFPD will sponsor another $7,000 per year for the last three years. Each school involved will receive $3,500 per year, $2,500 for direct grants to qualified charitable organizations and $1,000 for expenses incurred by the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). Any balance of the $1,000 may go to a school endowment fund established with the Community Foundation of Portage and District.

With the idea to engage young people in philanthropy, our intention is to provide leadership development opportunities for participants to gain a deeper understanding
of community, volunteerism and public service.

The year ended with the starting up of two new named funds: Arthur Meighen High School Philanthropy Fund and Portage Collegiate Institute Philanthropy Fund. Each Youth Advisory Committee will undertake some fundraising activity to help build their Philanthropy Fund; donations are gratefully accepted.
