Portage Arts, Culture and Heritage Fund

Violet GuickMrs. Violet Carter Guick was a lady with heart and district and enjoyed giving back to the community she loved. Mrs. Violet Carter Guick was a wonderful supporter of the Community Foundation of Portage becoming a "Founder" in 1994 and established the "Portage Arts, Culture and Heritage Fund" in 1998. Her hope was that others with similar interests would contribute to the fund to assist local projects that represents aspects of the arts, the advancement of culture or preservation of local heritage. In her will she named the Community Foundation as one of the beneficiaries and the funds were added to the Portage Arts, Culture and Heritage Fund, value of fund will now be over $28,650.

Violet Guick emigrated from England at the age of eight and lived in the Portage area since 1919. She developed a home-based business, Violets Hairdressing, which she operated well into the 80's. She enjoyed her life in Portage and had always been involved in her community, actively participated in her beloved church and enjoyed in her leisure time crafts, theatre and functions at the Portage Arts Centre.
