Elma Slack Bursary Fund
(The Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Building Incentive Program)
For rural Manitoba students, post secondary education often comes with a hefty price tag that includes moving and residence expenses. A new education assistance plan, funded by The Province of Manitoba and administered by The Winnipeg Foundation, will help rural communities build endowment funds to offset education costs for their students.
The Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Building Incentive Program provides $100,000 annually for five years to Manitoba community foundations for building scholarship and bursary funds. Eligibility criteria and application processes for scholarships will be managed at the local level.
CFPD embraces the new bursary program and invites the public to start up a new bursary fund or add to an existing one. Each year the matching dollars will be prorated and added to each bursary fund created.
CFPD is asking you to consider the following:
· You may contribute to a named fund established by CFPD. The fund is called “The General Education Bursary Fund”. There is no minimum gift – all new gifts are eligible. The size of the bursary and how many will be awarded depends on the size of the fund. A balance of $2,000 will establish this named fund.
· You may establish a bursary fund in your name or in memory of someone special. A minimum contribution of $5,000 is needed to establish the named fund and may be built over the next four years.
The bursary shall be awarded to a Portage area student who must relocate his/her residence to a different community in order to pursue his/her academic studies.
The Elma Slack Bursary Fund was the first named fund created under this new bursary program. The bursary will help students with relocation costs.
