WHAT IS IT? Celebrating Canada’s 150 Birthday in 2017!  The Community Fund for Canada’s 150th will provide communities with thousands of small grants to support local projects bringing out the best Canada has to offer for the sesquicentennial distributed by participating community foundations.

The initiative is made possible by the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th, a collaboration between the Community Foundation of Portage and District, the Government of Canada, and extraordinary leaders from coast to coast to coast.

WHO CAN APPLY? The Community Fund for Canada’s 150th is available to qualified donees (registered non-profits or charities) operating within Canada, with the exception of the federal, provincial, and territorial governments; the United Nations, and the Crown.

HOW MUCH IS AVAILABLE? Combining $15,000 of support from the Community Foundation of Portage and District funds together with the matching from the collaboration, there is $30,000 available for local initiatives.

GRANT AMOUNTS & MATCHING REQUIREMENT: The Community Fund for Canada’s 150th will support thousands of initiatives through small grants for community projects.

Please note that regardless of the size of the grant requested, eligible projects are required to match the grant requested, through cash or in-kind contributions equal to the value of the grant.

For example, an applicant that requests a $2,000 grant will be required to come to the table with an additional contribution of $2,000 in cash or in-kind. In-kind contributions may include volunteer hours, donated space or equipment, professional services, or other contributions to the project, valued at a reasonable market rate.

HOW MUCH CAN I APPLY FOR? Grants from the Fund may range from $100 to $15,000.  At a maximum, grants from the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th will not exceed $15,000.  Regardless of the size of the grant requested, eligible projects are required to match the grant requested, through in-kind or cash contributions equal to the value of the grant. Projects must be completed by January 31, 2018.

 

 

WHAT IS AN ELIGIBLE PROJECT?  It must be based in Canada, and must work towards one or more of the Fund’s objectives, to:

  • ENCOURAGE participation in community activities and events to mark Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation;
  • INSPIRE a deeper understanding about the people, places and events that shape our country and our communities; or
  • BUILD vibrant and healthy communities with the broadest possible engagement of all Canadians, including indigenous peoples; groups that reflect our cultural diversity; youth; and official language minorities.

These objectives will lead to a multitude of outcomes including increased Belonging, Inclusion, Reconciliation, and Connection, within communities.

  • Community building
  • Sport/active living
  • Learning materials/activities
  • Exhibits
  • Documentary films
  • Artistic projects
  • Environmental stewardship

WHEN CAN I APPLY AND WHAT IS THE DEADLINE? The Community Foundation of Portage and District deadline for applications is January 31, 2017.
